ive got a 96 2.3 glx gal...shud this be fitted with heated wingmirrors..if it is then shud they come on when the rear window heater is switched on?...if the answer is yes to these questions can anyone tell me where to look for a possible fault because my wing mirrors dont appear to be working...........cheers.......

Not sure whether GLX as heated mirrors, I have a 97 ghia which as them. But I broke one of them and it was a lot cheaper to replace with a non heated glass.

So it could be possible that this as happened to yours with the previous owner

My bammer does not have them and I would love some. I wonder how much that upgrade would cost to retro-fit with used parts....

how long should the heating elements in the mirrors last for?

as mine don't seem very good, and as its going in for service soon, i could ask for them to be replaced if need be.

Mines got heated mirrors.

I'm not sure which switch turns them on, i've had the car for 3 years now and still put the front and back screens on at the same time. :D

I think the mirrors work with the front screen. Mine don`t work, but neither does the front screen. Does anyone know where the "maxi" type fuses are located on a 1999 Tdi ? They are very large fuses. I think I am looking for a 50 amp one but cannot locate these fuses anywhere. My dealer says that the vehicle has got some fitted, but, they don`t know where! I think that could be the problem with mine. Everything else seems ok. If anyone knows please help me........!!

CJB posh name for fuse panel on Mk2's :( under dash drivers side, 50A fuse should be a BIG RED FUSE

OOOP'S! for some reason I though you had a Mk2 :( in that case it's still a large red fuse top row of the fuse board far left

also the relay IIRC is in the fuse box in the engine bay

But that`s the problem. I can`t find any in the engine bay and I`m sure there are none inside the car.

Ok, some TDI'S dont have the fuse box in the engine bay  my diags for the fuse board and the heated front screen set up show it as F27 50A top left of the fuse board above K148 (dip/main beam relay) get right down in the foot well and look up under the dash and you should see the fuse?

Just had a look in torch light. I have a couple of rows of normal fuses going left to right so to speak and a row of small fuses going like front to back. Can`t see any others.

In that case you have a GEM panel or CJB being a 98/99 yours is a cross over model  certain parts were used on your model and carried over onto the MK2 IIRC GEM panels are in two levels? you need to unclip the top layer and gain access to the rear panel which houses the fuse for heated screen

Also the GEM panel does away with some relays and replaces them with timers built into the panel, one of these timers controls the front and rear heated screen

and that brings us back to F75 50A
